Place the router in an open area free of walls and obstructions, such as on a window sill or in the attic.
Open areas provide better reception by avoiding crowding and blockage.

Select a wireless channel that is far from neighbors' channels to reduce competition.
Choosing a less used channel reduces interference from other routers.
