National Call Center for Homeless Veterans
You can reach VA counselors any time if you are a veteran who is homeless, about to lose housing, or worried about a veteran who is.
Good to know
It is free, open all day and night, and can connect you to housing and services near you. Family and friends can call too, and there is an online chat.
Before you call
They may ask
- a few questions to understand your situation, so the counselor can identify urgent needs
They can
- put you through to a trained VA counselor at 1-877-424-3838 at any hour, or by online chat at any hour, free
- help you find housing support or VA services near you, and connect you with local VA staff if you need ongoing help
- talk with Veterans who are homeless or about to lose housing, and with family or friends helping a Veteran
- point you to your local VA Medical Center, where you can call or visit and ask for a Homeless Coordinator
They cannot
- replace the Veterans Crisis Line: for thoughts of suicide or emotional distress, call or text 988 and press 1; in immediate danger, call 911
