Identity Theft Resource Center

A non-profit that helps victims of identity theft, fraud and scams, free of charge. You can talk one-on-one with an advisor by phone or text, or chat with an advisor on the website.

Good to know

The help page lists what to gather first: an FTC or police identity theft report, a copy of your credit report that shows the accounts opened in your name, and any data breach notice you got.

Before you call

Have ready

  • if you have them: an FTC or police identity theft report, a copy of your credit report that shows the accounts opened in your name, and any data breach notice

They can

  • give you one-on-one help from an advisor by phone or text on 888-400-5530, or by chat on the website, during its normal business hours (6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time; days not stated)
  • give direct help, a custom plan to fix the damage, and resources, free of charge

They cannot

  • fix your accounts for you: an advisor walks you through the steps, and you contact the companies yourself

We list this organization because people told us it helped. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 10, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
