Cancer Research UK nurse helpline

If you, or someone close to you, has been affected by cancer and you have questions, you can talk to a cancer information nurse by phone or send your question through their online form.

Good to know

Cancer Research UK calls the number "freephone". The nurses give information only: they cannot diagnose you or give a medical opinion, so see your doctor about a health problem. You can ask for an interpreter. The service is for people who live in the UK.

Before you call

They may ask

  • on the online form: your name, email address, age range, how cancer has affected you, the cancer type, where in the UK you live, and your question. The form also asks your gender identity and ethnicity, and both have a "Prefer not to say" option.

They can

  • answer questions from anyone affected by cancer, including someone worried they may have it or someone close to a person who has it, by phone, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or through the online form
  • give you an interpreter so you can speak in a language other than English

They cannot

  • diagnose you or give a medical opinion: the nurses provide an information service only, so see your doctor about a health problem
  • get emergency care for you or talk to health professionals on your behalf
  • answer questions from people who live outside the UK, or help students with projects and academic work

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 31, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
