Carers UK

If you look after a friend or family member, you can get information and signposting from their telephone helpline, or ask a question by email.

Good to know

There is also an email helpline for more detailed questions, and online meet-ups. Carers UK lists Samaritans on 116 123 and NHS 111 for urgent support.

Before you call

They can

  • give information and signposting by phone, and more detailed guidance by email (advice@carersuk.org)
  • answer questions about carers' assessments, benefits and financial support, services for carers, and how to complain and challenge decisions
  • point you to your local carers' organisation, which has details on carers' assessments, emergency card schemes and respite

They cannot

  • update your Carer's Allowance claim or check whether it has been paid: Carers UK is not part of the DWP
  • always give the same specialist help by phone as by email: if it cannot help by phone, it will tell you other ways to get that support

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 3, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
