Floodline
Floodline is the telephone line for flood information in England, Scotland and Wales. You can speak to an adviser, and sign up for flood warnings, change your details or cancel them by phone. You can also ask Floodline to send flood warnings to a friend or relative on your behalf. The Environment Agency lists it as its Floodline. SEPA and Natural Resources Wales give the same number for Scotland and Wales.
Good to know
GOV.UK lists a textphone number, 0345 602 6340, and gives the line as a “24-hour service”. It is a 0345 number: GOV.UK’s call charges page lists 0345 numbers as costing up to 16p a minute from landlines and 3p to 65p from mobiles (approximate), so check with your phone provider. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, GOV.UK says to call 999. For flooding from surface water (sometimes called flash flooding), GOV.UK says to contact your local council. Floodline does not cover Northern Ireland, which has separate services listed on the nidirect site.
Before you call
Have ready
- the pages read do not say what the phone line asks for. To sign up online, GOV.UK says you need an email address and a way to be reached at any time of day or night, by call, text or email
They can
- talk to a Floodline adviser about flooding
- sign you up for flood warnings, change your details or cancel them, if you are in England, Scotland or Wales
- send flood warnings to a friend or relative on your behalf, if you ask
- take calls from textphone users on 0345 602 6340
They cannot
- take the place of 999: GOV.UK says to call 999 if you or someone else is in immediate danger
- warn you about surface water flooding: for that GOV.UK says to contact your local council (the England warning service says it cannot warn for surface water flooding)
- cover Northern Ireland, which has its own flood services on the nidirect site
If you are in Scotland, SEPA says to select option 2 for Scotland and then option 3 to speak to an advisor. The pages read do not say how long you may wait.
