mydeposits Northern Ireland

If your deposit is protected with mydeposits Northern Ireland and you cannot agree with your landlord how much should be returned, you can raise a dispute through its free dispute resolution mechanism (DRM) service.

Good to know

For a deposit your landlord holds (an insured scheme), phone to tell it about the dispute: its dispute page says it must be submitted within three months (minus one day) of you moving out or of the deposit being unprotected, whichever is earliest. For a deposit it holds (a custodial scheme), you raise a dispute through your online account by 'disagreeing' with the proposed release terms within 30 working days of the request. Calls are charged between 1p and 13p per minute for landline customers. Calls from mobile phones may be considerably higher depending on your mobile provider. Email info.insurance@mydepositsni.co.uk or info.custodial@mydepositsni.co.uk.

Before you call

Have ready

  • your evidence: for a deposit your landlord holds (an insured scheme), you have up to 10 working days from when you submit the dispute to provide it
  • your online account, if mydeposits holds your deposit (a custodial scheme): you raise the dispute there

They can

  • take a dispute about a deposit your landlord holds (an insured scheme) by phone
  • run a free dispute process for a deposit it holds (a custodial scheme) through your online account: the landlord or agent has 10 working days to provide evidence, then you have 10 working days, then the landlord or agent has seven working days to respond to your claim
  • have an adjudicator decide within 20 working days
  • accept a request for a review within 10 working days of the decision, but only if the adjudicator made a mistake of fact or law
