National Domestic Abuse Helpline (Refuge)

You can talk about domestic abuse, plan for your safety, and work out what options you have. You can also use their live chat or a secure online form.

Good to know

The call is free. The advisers are all female. There is a British Sign Language service from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. In an emergency, call 999.

Before you call

Have ready

  • if you think someone might be monitoring your devices, the site says to leave it and visit from a safe device

They can

  • talk with you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, on 0808 2000 247, free, or through live chat
  • talk about domestic abuse, safety planning, advice and support, in many different languages
  • help you find a refuge place or other specialist services
  • offer a British Sign Language service, 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday

They cannot

  • help you directly to get a non-molestation order: the site says it offers signposting, and points to Rights of Women for advice and support on that
  • replace 999: if you are in an emergency, call 999

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 3, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
