Health and Social Care Trusts (Northern Ireland)

In Northern Ireland the Health and Social Care (HSC) Trusts give health and social care services locally, in hospitals and in the community. nidirect says an assessment of need with the social services department of your local Trust is often the first step to getting help, such as home care or a residential or nursing home place, and that a carer who gives regular and significant care to someone aged 18 or over has the right to an assessment of their own needs.

Good to know

nidirect lists six trusts: five area trusts (Belfast, Northern, South Eastern, Southern and Western) and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Pick yours on its page, which links to each one. nidirect says the Trust's complaints manager takes complaints about its hospital and community social care services. A named nurse or ward-based care coordinator is responsible for you leaving hospital, and if you need ongoing support a team that may include social services assesses you before you leave; each Trust sets its own eligibility criteria.

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 10, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
