Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO)

NIPSO investigates unresolved complaints about public bodies in Northern Ireland, including hospitals and care homes, schools and councils. It is independent of government and its service is free. You can complain online, by phone, by email or in writing.

Good to know

Complain to the organisation first and go through its complaints process: NIPSO normally expects a final response. NIPSO says you must bring your complaint to it within 6 months of the organisation completing its process, though in exceptional cases it may accept one later. The law requires the organisation to send you a written notice when its process ends, giving the time limit, and counts the 6 months from the day it sends that notice: keep the notice and its date. To visit the office, call first for an appointment.

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 10, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
