Public Service Ombudsman (NHS in England and UK government services)

If you have complained to an NHS organisation in England and are still unhappy with its answer, you can complain to the ombudsman. It also takes complaints about UK government services. Its online complaint checker shows whether it can help.

Good to know

It is free. It used to be called the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO). Complain to the organisation you are unhappy with first. The ombudsman asks you to complain to it within 12 months of knowing about the issue. It does not investigate every complaint it receives. Large print and Easy Read complaint forms are available.

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 10, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.
