SafeDeposits Scotland

If your deposit is protected with SafeDeposits Scotland, its help centre for tenants has pages on returning your deposit and on deposit disputes. You can phone it, or send it an enquiry that one of its specialists will answer.

Good to know

Phone: its own pages give Monday to Friday, 8am to 10pm, except bank holidays. mygov.scot says that if your scheme asks whether you agree with your landlord's deductions, you have 30 working days to answer, and that if you do not reply your landlord gets the deductions they ask for. mygov.scot also says you can tell the scheme yourself that your tenancy has ended and ask for your deposit back, and that all 3 Scottish schemes offer a free dispute resolution service.

Before you call

They can

  • answer questions about returning your deposit and about deposit disputes in its tenant help centre
  • take an enquiry by email: its page says one of its specialists will respond shortly
  • return your deposit in full within 30 days if you ask the scheme yourself and your landlord does not contact it: mygov.scot says this of the Scottish schemes

They cannot

  • answer the phone outside Monday to Friday, 8am to 10pm, or on bank holidays
