Shelter England

If you are homeless, have nowhere to stay tonight, are at risk of harm at home, or are worried about losing your home, you can get housing advice from an adviser.

Good to know

The helpline is free. They do not provide accommodation, only advice. It is in high demand, so you might wait over an hour; try again if you cannot get through. They advise on English housing law only: Scotland has Shelter Scotland and Wales has Shelter Cymru.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Closed weekends and bank holidays.

We list this organization because it is a national service for the need on this page. We’re not affiliated with it, and we don’t speak for it. Last checked October 3, 2026: we opened its own site and confirmed this link and number. We don’t call the lines, and hours can change — their site has the latest.

Heavy moment? Call Samaritans on 116 123 — or we’re here.
