Before you call

Have ready

  • where and when the passport was lost or stolen, and a copy of any police report

They can

  • take a report of a lost or stolen passport by phone
  • help with urgent travel, depending on your travel date and whether you have already applied

They cannot

  • help by email with a travel emergency or a status update
  • replace a passport abroad: that is the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate
