Child Law Advice (Coram)

Free legal advice for parents, carers and young people in England on education law, which includes school exclusions, by phone, webchat or email. The education line is 0300 330 5485. There is a separate family line, 0300 330 5480, for family law.

Good to know

Only for a child who lives in England. A booked callback has a fee; phone, webchat and email advice is free. An interpreter is available if you find it difficult to speak English. If your child was permanently excluded from a school in London, ask about their School Exclusions Clinic, which offers free legal representation.

Before you call

They can

  • give free legal advice on education law, including exclusions, by phone on the education line, by webchat or by email
  • arrange an interpreter if you find it difficult to speak English

They cannot

  • advise you if you have a solicitor or barrister, or have applied for legal aid through a solicitor
  • advise about a child who lives outside England
  • represent you, meet you face to face, draft court forms or appeals, or advise on the merits of an appeal
