Cruse Bereavement Support
If someone you love has died, you can talk to a trained volunteer who can help you make sense of how you are feeling. It does not matter how long ago the death was.
Good to know
The call is free. Volunteers are non-judgemental and will not share what you tell them unless you are in danger. You can also contact them through a webform at any time. Cruse has local branches in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Before you call
Have ready
- nothing to prepare: you can talk about how you are feeling, how the person died, how you are coping, and how to talk to children or young people about death
They can
- listen: trained bereavement volunteers give you space to talk, without judging, and the call is free from all UK landlines and mobiles
- tell you about other Cruse services and other organisations that may help
- keep what you say confidential unless you or someone else is in danger
- take your message through a webform at any time, though response times vary
They cannot
- give direct advice on money, medical or legal questions
- answer on Saturday or Sunday
- support callers who are outside the UK
The helpline is very busy and may not answer straight away: keep trying. Calling when it first opens, or from 1pm to 2pm, may shorten the wait. If you are struggling in the meantime, call Samaritans on 116 123.
