If you live in Northern Ireland, you can call free about your Universal Credit claim, including to ask for a decision to be looked at again (mandatory reconsideration).

If you cannot use the phone or the internet, you can make an urgent appointment at your local Jobs and Benefits office. Relay UK and a British or Irish Sign Language video relay service are available.

Before you call

Have ready

  • your decision notice and the date on it

They can

  • take your request for a mandatory reconsideration of a Universal Credit decision by phone
  • tell you about the exceptional circumstances in which the time limit can be extended
  • take Relay UK calls, and British or Irish Sign Language calls through a video relay service

They cannot

  • answer outside Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, or on public holidays
  • deal with Housing Benefit or Rate Relief: the Housing Executive does
